We were recently asked to design a lighting system for a property in the Adelaide Hills. The landscaping was reminiscent of a botanical garden. Large oak trees and sweeping lawns made this a stunning back yard during the day but we wanted to add some magic at night!

Garden lighting is all about showcasing the beauty of the landscape. Nature provides us some of the best art work we could imagine. With lighting it's all about showcasing this beauty in a way different to what we see in the day. This is one of the reasons we prefer uplighting. By placing a light near the base of a tree and directing the light upwards gives us a whole different perspective to what we get from sunlight. We also can achieve some amazing effects with the contrast of light and shadow.

Our clients love to entertain so it was important that not only we make the garden look good, but we provided enough light for guests to mingle on the lush greens lawns.

To achieve this we mounted our 5W Lotus LED high up in a couple of the trees aiming them down onto the grass. This allowed us to cast a beautiful dappled light across the lawn.

We call this effect moonlighting as it is similar to what you see when the moon casts a shadow through the trees. The positioning of the light is crucial to get the balance of light and shadow but overall it is a fantastic way to provide subtle mood lighting.
