Change a life, it could be yours

A few things have really touched me lately which have encouraged me to be more socially conscious and fuel the need to help our fellow man. It started off this week by the movie Troy chose called “A good Lie” starring Reese Witherspoon. I’d had a challenging week with our 15mth old daughter being sick and I was feeling a bit down so I was in need for an uplifting story. What I didn’t expect was how I would feel after seeing this incredibly moving movie. It tells of how a small group of Sudanese kids are orphaned after watching their parents, village and many other innocent people along the way carelessly killed - caught up in the Civil war during 1983. The story takes you through their path to survival, something most of us here in Australia are so sheltered from. The life of a refugee is not an enviable one, the nightmare these people have to face each day is incredible. The longing just to be home and safe with their loved ones is something that touches all of us, no matter where you come from.

In the post yesterday I received one of the many letters we get from charities kindly asking for our donation. As I looked at it, I said to myself do I want to donate to this one today? It asked me to “Open the fridge door and feel how cold it is." Many mornings I’ve thought of how our house feels like a fridge, but can you imagine not having 4 walls, a comfy bed, and a nice warm meal to make it all that more manageable? That is what made me stop and at that moment decide to donate. It also sparked in me the need to do more than just give money but myself, so I have now put my name down for Fred’s Van, something that I’ve thought about doing for a long time but never made the effort. Troy and I are also thinking of how we can support those in need through our business too, so stay posted and we’ll let you know how you can be a part of it.

So hopefully the words I have written here today inspire you too. Not just to think about helping out, but actually take the next step to helping your fellow man out. There are SO many ways and we’d love to hear how you are helping out so please let us know.
